Meet Dr. Lindsay Starks PT, DPT

I grew up in northern Michigan with a passion for women’s health, movement, and running. It wasn’t until I began working towards my career as a Doctor of Physical Therapy that I took my passion for women’s health and began coursework in pelvic floor rehabilitation. I have treated pelvic floor dysfunction, athletic injuries, and orthopedic pain for the last 3 years here in Holland, MI. I am also trained in sports rehab, dry needling, and visceral manipulation. I enjoy seeing a variety of diagnoses leading to pain and movement dysfunction, as well as working with patients who simply want to optimize their health. There is often a gap in “whole-person” healthcare, and as an orthopedic AND pelvic floor physical therapist, I strive to fill that gap through a full-body assessment. Whether that is decreasing pain, running a marathon, or being able to play with your kids, I am thrilled to help you work towards your goals.

Dr. Lindsay specializes in pelvic rehab and running, with additional training in dry needling and visceral mobilization. She takes a hands-on, full-body approach to movement and pain. Her treatment style targets movement dysfunction and optimization, avoiding a “band-aid” treatment and instead focusing on lasting improvement. She received her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from North Park University in Chicago, IL. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI.

Movewell had been a dream of Lindsay’s for several years, finally coming to life in 2022! She started this company after feeling frustrated with standard physical therapy care. She feels that no patient deserves a “cookie-cutter” treatment, which is why her care is so far from that!

 Physical Therapy Specializations

  • The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and ligaments that span from your pubic bone to your tailbone. The role of the pelvic floor is to support pelvic organs, aid in bowel and bladder control, allow for normal sexual function, and to appropriately relax & stretch during labor. Dysfunction in the pelvic floor can occur for many reasons, therefore, individualized assessment and treatment is needed.

  • There are a lot of unknowns when it comes to pregnancy and postpartum care. Care will be very individualized but includes interventions most relevant to this population: pain management, body mechanics, labor + delivery prep, immediate postpartum prep, exercise safety, intentional home exercises, equipment suggestions, movement tips, and a lot of education regarding anatomy and your changing body!

  • Whether it’s an injury from running or simply wanting to optimize technique and speed, our runner-specific rehab is focused on the unique demands of the sport. We believe that in order for you to be better runner, you first need to address movement dysfunction, strength imbalances, and training technique. You may be completely new to running, or maybe you’ve run dozens of marathons, regardless, we want to help you run well.

  • Visceral manipulation is an organ-specific manual therapy aimed at improving fascial restrictions that can develop around your viscera (organs) for a variety of reasons. Like muscles and joints, our viscera should be able to move freely within the body. When this does not occur, many symptoms can develop such as constipation, heart-burn, restricted shoulder motion, etc.

  • Dry needling is the use of thin, filiform needles that are inserted into myofascial trigger points. The goal of dry needling is to improve pain, decrease muscle tension, and increase range of motion in specific regions.
